Which Trailer Type Is Right For You?
Flatbed
Flatbed trucks are ideal for transporting cargo up to 636" L x 102" W x 102" H, making them perfect for general freight that is 8 feet 6 inches or shorter in height. These trucks are commonly loaded using forklifts or from a dock, providing flexibility for various types of cargo. With a maximum payload capacity of 48,000 lbs, depending on the trailer configuration, flatbeds come in lengths of either 48 or 53 feet, ensuring versatility for different shipping needs.
Stepdeck
Stepdeck trailers are perfect for transporting cargo up to 516" L x 102" W x 121" H, making them the go-to choice for taller freight that exceeds the height limits of a flatbed, accommodating cargo up to 10 feet 1 inch tall. These trailers are also ideal for vehicles, telehandlers, and construction equipment that need to be driven on using ramps. With a maximum payload capacity of 46,000 lbs, depending on the trailer configuration, Stepdeck trailers are available in lengths of 48 or 53 feet, offering flexible solutions for a variety of transport needs.
Dry Van
Van trailers are designed for cargo up to 102" wide and 102" tall, making them the preferred option for freight that requires protection from the elements or is palletized. With a maximum load capacity of 42,000 lbs, these trailers are available in lengths of 48 or 53 feet, providing a secure and reliable solution for a wide range of cargo types.
Removable Gooseneck (RGN)
The Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailer is ideal for transporting heavy, tall, and difficult-to-load cargo. With a standard well length between 26 and 29 feet, a legal width of 102" (anything wider requires permits), and a legal height of up to 141", the RGN can accommodate loads ranging from 1,000 lbs to 100,000 lbs, depending on the trailer configuration. An RGN trailer can detach from the truck, creating its own low-profile ramp for easy loading. This makes it perfect for machinery like forklifts, bulldozers, and other equipment that needs to be driven onto the trailer. It's also an excellent option for transporting containers, water tanks, and military tanks. The RGN is especially useful for locations without loading ramps or crane offloading capabilities, offering unmatched versatility in challenging conditions.
Hot Shot
Hot Shot trailers are versatile and available in lengths ranging from 16 to 40 feet, making them ideal for smaller, time-sensitive loads. Depending on the trailer length, they can accommodate cargo sizes from 192" to 480" L x 102" W x 108" H. No commercial driver's license (CDL) is required for payloads up to 10,000 lbs, while payloads between 10,000 and 20,000 lbs require a CDL driver. These trailers are perfect for smaller hauls or expedited freight that needs to be delivered quickly, offering flexibility for various transport needs.
